Progress abounds!

yesterday, in addition to mudding and taping the entire basement (which they’ll have to do again in the one spot where I stuck my thumb into the mud), the tile guy took the toilet out of the kids’ bathroom and put the new tile down there.  The toilet’s in the tub for a day or two while they finish.

Today, they tear our bathroom out and put tile down, so 3 of us will be sharing one bathroom for about a week.  Should be fun.  LOL

With kids, every day is precious

So today the wife and I were awakened by the cooing (which means hungry barking and crying) from 3doh and thus started our day of feed / change then respective showers, etc.  Every day tends to start with that.  Then 1doh “sneaks” downstairs (it’s amazing that a girl that weighs 32 pounds couldn’t sneak up on a dead man) to surprise me.   2doh is awake shortly thereafter, and then we have a morning of “What do you want for breakfast?” and “Get dressed,” and other stuff.

And today was to have been no different.  Except….

1doh walked into our room and told GBD “There’s something wet in my bed.”

No big deal…right?

Nope.  No big deal at all.  Except when it’s VOMIT!

So 1doh, the sleepwalking, sleep-peeing child, is now the sleep-vomiting child.  She said her belly was bothering her last night, but I figured that was the cookies she had for dinner.  Oh well.  Chalk one up for parental non-intuition.

We kept her home from school for the day.  I had perfect attendance until 8th grade.  My eldest child didn’t get out of August.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that it simply never ever stops getting funny hearing that your son peed in his own eye or, better yet, your wife/mother in law/mother/father’s eye when he was being changed.  That’s high comedy.

I have a construction question for you all.  Are the fumes related to drywalling and sealing toxic?  Cuz they shur smells gud,but I think their gibbing me a haddock.

Another funny from this weekend was when we bought 1doh her first radio/cd player.  Twenty bucks I am glad I spent but regret at the same time.  She tells us every time 2doh breathes on the thing (which is often).  However, the upside  was that during the gojillionth playing of track one from the Hannah Montana cd, 2doh got into a  dancing frenzy, left the den, and came back nude.  Dancing.

That’s right.   My not yet two year old has a affinity for dancing nude, smacking herself on the bottom and examining her naughty parts at length.

Could a father be prouder?

Things that make you (my readers) go zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….

This is racing post, so if you already rolled your eyes, screw you.  Don’t read it.

As many of you know, the extrication of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. from DEI and the employment of his stepmother Theresa has been painful, public and very messy.  The fact that the son of “The Man,” the son who shares the name over the front door, left to drive for rival Hendrick Motorsports tells you all you need to know about how bad things can get.

Then there was the contentious negotiation surrounding Junior’s efforts to bring the number eight with him to HMS, which ultimately didn’t happen for whatever reason you choose to believe.

Since that time, speculation has run wild as to what number Joonyer will run next year and into the future.  Junior himself has speculated about running the number 81 and several others.

But then, something amazing happened (allegedly).

According to the worldwide leader in sports…no wait, that’s ESPN.  According to Speed’s Bob Dilner, Robert Yates Racing (owned by former crew chief and not at all today’s typical owner) Robert Yates and his son Doug, is offering their number 38 to Junior.

Why does that matter, you might be asking?

That’s easy.  Junior drove the 8.  His grandfather Ralph drove the 8.  and the 3 was driven by, well, if you don’t know that, you didn’t get this far in this post anyway, so nevermind.

Anyway, I think that’s pretty cool.  I’ve always liked Yates and, with the exception of career douchebag Dale Jarrett, I’ve always found myself pulling for Robert’s drivers.  Rudd, Allison, Robby Gordon, Elliott Sadler, and now David Gilliland.  It seems that Robert always seems to find  guys that are good drivers but also good people, and Robert rewards them by being a standup guy and a great owner.

I really hope this works out.  It’d be nice to see Junior get a number that works and ties his past with his future.

Oh, and I’ve already got some 38 swag anyway.  So I’ll be ahead of the game.

By the way, is there any way Joonyer could get M&Ms as a sponsor and change his name to Sadler?

The power and goodness that is the NAACP

Yesterday, some enlightened fellow from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People held a press conference in Atlanta.

Was he concerned about the treatment of minorities by the local police?

No.

Was he upset that a minority was unjustly accused of a crime, like dating a white woman?

No.

Here stood R.L. White, President of the Atlanta chapter of the once proud and useful organization, telling us that Vick’s felony conviction should not result in a lifetime ban from the NFL.

Nevermind that Vick hasn’t even been sentenced by the Feds or suspended or cut by the Falcons and his former number one apologist Arthur Blank.  This guy’s worried about how we’re all gonna treat poor misunderstood mike two years from now.

Here are some outtakes from Mr. White’s speech:

“We should join hands as a team and recognize the fact that Mr. Vick is human, humans make mistakes, but we maintain that he is a redeemable human. As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football.  We further ask the NFL, Falcons, and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country.’’

“Michael Vick has received more negative press than if he had killed a human being.” (I agree with this one fwiw).

And here’s a doozy:

White said the Atlanta chapter supports Vick’s decision to accept a plea bargain if it’s in his best interest, but he questioned the credibility of Vick’s co-defendants, saying an admission of guilt might be more about cutting losses than the truth.

“At this point, you’re not looking at guilt or innocence,’’ White said, referring to the possible harsher sentence Vick could have received had he taken his case to trial and been found guilty. “You’re thinking, ‘What I better do is cut my losses and take a plea.’ But if he saw this as the best thing to do at this point for his future, then I think he made the correct choice.’’

White said he regretted that the plea deal will mean all the facts of the case might never be known.

“Some have said things to save their own necks,’’ White said. “Michael Vick has received more negative press than if he had killed a human being.’’

White said he does not support dog fighting and that he considers it as bad as hunting.

“His crime is, it was a dog,’’ White said.

Now, the first thing I’d like to ask is, why hasn’t the NAACP changed their name already?  If I called a black man “colored” in this day and age, the NAACP would fall on me like Abdullah the Butcher.  If I called R.L. White, president of the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP colored, he’d be having a press conference about me…or on me.

Secondly, how can anyone take these idiots seriously anymore?  Here’s a guy with some clout in the organization, and he’s actually blaming the other guys that took plea agreements, ALL OF THEM BLACK MIND YOU, and saying that THEY are trying to frame Mike Vick?  Jesus Christ man.  Doesn’t anyone proofread this stuff for you?

Thirdly, when are folks gonna realize that the NAACP is about as useful today as unions?

Both served a purpose in their day, but now it’s just about vote buying and power and corruption and excuse making.  R.L. White says he’s sorry that the plea agreement means the facts of the case might never be known.

Hey Reverend White (which is quite an ironic name, no?), have you ever heard of someone aceepting a plea bargain that has them admitting to MORE than they actually did?  Of course not.  But you are so blinded by race and money that you are willing to spout this nonsense to anyone with a microphone since you can’t get your mug on television doing anything else.

Oh, and your excuse that Vick didn’t run dogfighting, but that he and his posse just loved dogs, but the posse couldn’t afford the dogs, so Mike paid for the dogs so they could all own a kennel together, is so preposterous that I actually laughed when I read it.

I’m guessing that the buried carcasses of mangled pit bulls, buildings painted black on the outside with interior walls splattered with canine blood and rape stands found on the property were all there to enhance the pet-owner relationship…right?

Just when I think that this case can’t get any more preposterous, the NAACP shows up and saves the day.  My only hope now (strictly for blog material purposes) is that Reverend Al “Tawana Brawley” Sharpton and Jessie “Do as I say, not as I do” Jackson show up and make the entire thing even more retarded.

Be warned: this is a shotgun blast of blog entry

There are a couple of different sides to the Michael Vick story, and I don’t think the media is adequately covering a couple of them. Since I have opinions on most things anyway and this in particular, I thought I’d weigh in on several fronts.

First, since the day this story broke on a national level (meaning when the State of Virginia shit the bed and the FBI came in to avoid screwing up the case), all I have heard from people of color in the media and in those man on the streets interviews has been “He hasn’t been convicted of anything,” and “What about his due process?” and “Let’s wait until all the facts are in before you convict him in the court of public opinion.”

Those arguments are made anytime a black man of some fame (or notoriety) is arrested, charged, indicted, or even mentioned in relation to some scandal. Remember OJ’s lawyers and race baiters (Cochran in particular) did the same thing? Did Sharpton and those other race pimps condemn white America for daring to think that The Juice would harm his wife, let alone kill her? (By the way, the subsequent release of 911 calls and photos showing that OJ made a habit of kicking the shit out of his wife was supposed to shock us all I guess).

So we waited. Michael swore up and down that he had nothing to do with this and that he just had some passing associations with some people who did bad things. He told TV cameras everywhere that he was innocent, and I’m sure he had several chances to look his boss in the eye and sweetly say “I swear I’m innocent.”

But this coming Monday, Mr. Vick will accept a plea agreement in exchange for some leniency in sentencing.

The only thing that warrants mentioning here is that very few people enter into plea agreements with the feds that convict them of MORE than they actually did. So you can assume that the very least Michael Vick did was kill dogs (by way of beating on the ground, electrocution, shooting and drowning), participate in dog fighting, up to and including being the ring leader. And I reiterate, this is obviously just the LEAST of what he did. That in itself is disgusting.

The second part of this story that irritates me is everyone talking about what a great lady and mother Mike’s mom is. I have heard a number of Falcon players on the radio since this happened saying how great she is and how much this has hurt her.Well, from where I sit, she can’t be that great a mom if her one son is pleading guilty to felony dog fighting, giving chicks the herp and carrying bottles with secret compartments thru an airport while the other son (Marcus) was only busted for giving 14 year old girls booze and having sex with them, possession of firearms and drugs, stomping on another guys groin on national television, and again, these are only the things they was caught doing.

That does not sound like great parenting occurred along the way.

Next up, what does it say about our society that people are more up in arms about Mike Vick’s dog fighting operation than about babies thrown in dumpsters, old people forced to live in misery without the ability to choose physician assisted suicide, and the true great evil, DUI?

Here’s an example for you. In the late 1990’s, a guy named Leonard Little came out of the University of Tennessee and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams. Now Leonard ran into a little trouble when he got liquored up and killed another driver. The NFL (and animal lovers) didn’t do shit. Leonard still plays in the NFL today.

Now I’m not condoning animal cruelty, but what does it say if our society is more upset and demanding that a person never play in the NFL again for gambling and participating in a disgusting pastime while another has actually taken a human life, the deadliest of all sins, and 90% of the people up in arms about Vick wouldn’t even know the guy by name or recall what he did? And what’s worse, I’m not sure THAT guy missed a month’s worth of pay!

So here we sit in Atlanta, sports fans with a team that has gone from bad to decent to good to decent to shocked to decimated. The player that billionaire owner Arthur Blank pushed around in a wheelchair after Vick broke his ankle has lied to said owner, teammates and fans, and now his time with the Falcons is over. The team traded Matt Schaub, and I’m betting more than a little of that decision was made based on Vick’s assertions that he had nothing to do with this nonsense, has fewer quarterbacks ready to play than I do at home.

The team is stuck with a big salary cap hit and trying to get back SOME of the 22 million dollar signing bonus (if there’s any left), a quarterback that has flamed out of two other NFL teams (Joey Harrington), a 3rd (now 2nd) string QB out for the year with an ACL tear in DJ Shockley, and a season ahead that sees opponents putting 10 men in the box and daring the Falcons to do anything BUT run it up the middle, which they most assuredly won’t be able to do.

And here sits a guy in his athletic prime with the whole world at his fingertips, on the verge of being Nike’s number one non-Tiger Woods commodity globally, sitting on a 100+ million dollar contract and nearly equal that in endorsements, yet he was STILL too fucking stupid to stop associating with the dregs of our society and the scourge of humanity, the type of people that don’t have a second thought when ending the life of an animal thru hideously cruel methods, and now he is about to spend somewhere between twelve and sixty months in a FEDERAL PENITENTIARY.

He is a convicted felon for life, meaning he can’t vote (as if I’m sure he gives a shit), he can’t own a firearm or ammunition (which will infringe on his rolling with his homies if he has to go gat-less), and there are certain jobs he can’t hold (LOL).

The biggest thing is, I seriously doubt that any NFL team owner will be willing to take the PR hit it would require to sign Vick after his time in the big house.

So, there will sit a guy, not yet 30 years old, who should be reaping the rewards of his hard work, luck, and God given ability. Instead, he’ll be hanging out with shitbags, with zero motivation to avoid associating with the same folks who rolled over on him in the dog fighting case, and just watching the rest of the money he has left go away.

Could he reform himself and come out a better citizen?

Sure. But I seriously doubt he will. Don’t you?
