I was talking to a friend today and we were discussing weird habits or OCD-like tendencies. I think everyone has at least one or two of these, but some of us have more than others. I think that if you were ever diagnosed with marginal ADD or full-blown ADD, you have more than a few, like me.
Anyway, I wanted to ask if any of you have any weird ones. Since it’s Tuesday, I’ll list 12 or so of mine:
1) When I’m eating a meal with a couple of different items (salad, veggie, bread, main course) I eat my least favorite thing first and work up to my most favorite item.
2) Until my surgery, I ate everything in threes: corn dogs, hot dogs, bagel egg mcmuffins or regular egg mcmuffins, or some other breakfast sammich, etc. If it was Taco Bell it was six tacos (multiple of three). If it was Krystal’s it was three Krystals with cheese, three corn pups and three Krystal chicks. If it wasn’t a full meal by itself, it had to be in threes. Is it any wonder I had by-pass surgery at age 37?
3) I have to lock and unlock my car with the key fob thingy about 100 times every time I get in or out. Not because I don’t think or know that it’s locked / unlocked. I just do.
4) I don’t HAVE to step on or not step on a crack in sidewalks, but if I do, I try to do it the same way for the rest of the walk.
5) The same goes for colored tiles in stores. If I hit one I try to hit them all, but if I miss right away I avoid them. Not so much that I can’t get to certain parts of stores, but I’d prefer it.
6) Oh, and the same goes for colored carpet squares. You get the point.
7) I will not use a middle urinal or stall. I’ll take an end or I’ll just wait.
Improper dishwasher loading by anyone drives me nuts. I will unpack and reload a dishwasher, and sometimes not even in my own home.
9) If we go grocery shopping as a family, I have to load the cart. I don’t necessarily have to push it, but I have to load it. (Don’t misread this. I will push it and usually do, but I don’t insist).
10) I am picky about how a bed is made. The sheet cannot touch the top of the mattress. No one needs coverage up there. Let the sheet stop a foot short of the top of the bed, and there’s more tuck in room at the other end.
11) When I’m peeing, I have to fight myself to keep from flushing before I’m done. Literally, if you could see me, I bet I reach my left hand out to flush 6 or 7 times mid-pee and pull it back. That one’s especially bad when I’m drinking for some reason.
12) If I am reading a book ( and I always am), I will not go anywhere without it. I don’t mean I can’t walk from the den to the garage without it. But if we are driving the one mile from our house to the playground, I must take my book. Always.
Bonus: I am constantly misplacing my book. I bet I ask my wife at least once a day “Hey babe, I can’t find my book. Have you seen it?”
Those aren’t too weird…Are they?
