For the first time in 62 days I am sitting at my desk at work. Last night I couldn’t sleep with the anxiety usually associated with a new job instead of returning to one I’ve had for seven years.
It was wierd, but not as wierd as I thought it’d be. Everyone was very nice and welcoming and as has been the case through all of this stuff, I was pretty moved by the reception I got. This whole thing has been a humbling and almost rewarding experience if that makes any sense. There’s not much better for the spirit than being reminded that people like you and care about your well-being.
Especially if you’re narcissistic like me. LOL
Anyway, I’m not sure how much more I’ll post about work since that’s gotten pretty taboo recently, so let’s just move along.
I’m still hovering around 213 pounds which gives me a total lost as of this morning of 37 pounds. My primary and relatively short term (6 month) goal is 200 pounds, while I’d really like to get to 190 by the end of this year. I figure I’ll have to ramp up the exercise a little but at this point, I’m pretty happy with both the results and the shock on people’s faces if they haven’t seen me in a while.
Sophia’s doing great and had her one (and three) month checkups yesterday. How’s that possible, you ask? Easy. She was six weeks old, and the doc said “We can give her all four shots now and you won’t have to come back until her four month checkup,” and the wife said “Umm…hell yes.”
She is now 11 pounds 7 ounces. She’s in the 86th percentile in weight and the 46th percentile in height, meaning she’s short and fat. Oh, and she’s about in the 150th percentile in cuteness, but you already knew that. LOL
The College football bowl season has been entertaining yet disappointing as there have been some good games but the SEC has fared pretty poorly. Auburn and Georgia were clearly unprepared or at least under-prepared for their games and the results showed it.
It was nice to see an FSU player sent home for disciplinary reasons. It was also nice to see them lose.
I enjoyed watching Notre Dame lose too. Although they’re much more likeable than in the past and they’ve got a Buford kid (Darius Walker) at running back who’s been great, they didn’t deserve a BCS bid and it seems that was nothing more than a kickback from the BCS to a team that already gets more than they should from the networks and college football in general. They should either join a conference or spend the year playing the Akron Zips of the world.
It’s pathetic that in this day and age of instant media that folks at the networks can’t fight the urge to be first at the risk of being wrong. The assholes that reported that all 12 of the miners trapped in the West Virginia mine explosion had survived and then disseminated that information to the families should be beaten. A lot.
My thoughts are with the families of those lost and the lone survivor as well.
That’s all for now I guess. I’m hoping that inspiration hits me around lunchtime and I can get some more stuff out from behind the clog I’ve got in the creative part of my brain that may have been permanently damaged by all of the Percocet I took in November.
